1992 AGPC Puzzle Cutter’s Puzzle

Shay's notes

I discussed this puzzle with various attendees of the 2016 Puzzle Parley.  Anne Williams, Bob Armstrong and Amy Scott each confirmed they were at the 1992 meeting and recognized their signatures/initials on the back of the puzzle.  Anne helped identify the other signatures/initials and documented them in an email to me dated Sept 1, 2016.

Per Anne:

As you can see from Bob’s initials, we cut that puzzle on August 1, 1992. Harry Rinker was hosting an AGPC regional meeting in Emmaus PA that weekend. Fran Bove, a puzzle cutter who attended, wanted to give him a gift for hosting it. Someone had a scroll saw there, and she had brought a glued down picture of art by someone she knew in Kennebunkport ME.  She cut most of the pieces and got all the puzzle cutters present to cut one or two pieces also and sign them on the reverse.

Signatures include the ones you have identified plus:

RAA for Bob, AW for me, afs for Amy, FB (looks almost like LB) for Fran (she lived in or near Kennebunkport, is now dead), Evan J. Kern (now dead, a puzzle cutter from Kutztown PA), Pamela Ehrhardt (a painter who would cut some of her paintings into puzzles, from upstate NY I think), Debby Greeley (Pagey Elliott’s older sister from Concord, MA), Pagey E (E is for Elliott, from Carlisle, MA), Par Puzzles (John Madden was there and I watched him cut).

Description provided (if any) when acquired:

I have no idea who made this puzzle. My own idea is that it may have been done by an independent artist. The edges are not perfectly straight, and there are some unusually shaped pieces. There is a long piece with lots of curls in it-at the water’s edge, just below the lighthouse. There is also a neat spiral at the lower right. There is just a tiny bit of paper coming up at two really narrow spots on that spiral. This work is also signed at lower right, but I cannot quite make out what it says. There are three figural pieces; a seahorse, an H, and an R. I wonder if R and H are the cutter’s initials. Overall, condition is Excellent. Size is 6 3/4 by 10 3/4 inches. There is no box. I wrote all of that up before I took pictures, and saw the back of the puzzle. At least now we know that the artist is Ron Goyette. You will have to make your own decision as to whether that seahorse I mentioned earlier is a PAR seahorse.
