How I Craft Puzzles

Crafting Replacement Pieces

I’ve often purchased puzzles that are missing at least one piece, and I find great satisfaction in being able to rehab these puzzles. I use two methods to craft replacement pieces. Video 1 documents using thin lead to trace the puzzle piece shape to be cut. Video 2 illustrates a method wherein I use the scroll saw blade to “trace” the puzzle piece.

Pagey Elliott Puzzle Exchange Puzzles

The Inchworm PEPE 2016

I was quite nervous about participating in my first puzzle exchange. The puzzle I crafted had an image of an inchworm that I had painted.

I Knew an Old Lady... PEPE 2021

I created this puzzle for the 2021 Virtual Pagey Elliott Puzzle Exchange.  You can watch a short video about my process on YouTube.

Squirreled Away 2022 PEPE

For the 2022 Pagey Elliott Puzzle Exchange, I created a double sided puzzle that attempts to solve the mystery of “where did that last piece of puzzle go?”

In the video link below, you can watch my presentation of the puzzle at the 2022 Puzzle Parley.  The entire video includes all of the participants in the exchange (definitely worth watching), and my presentation starts at minute 21:35.

Kirituhi (Maori Tattoo) 2026 PEPE

The Kirituhi puzzle that I created for the exchange is the first that I have done that is in wood only, without an image. I really like the cherry wood that I used for the puzzle.
